Oral Yeast Infection
Oral yeast infection or thrush is a well known condition among women babies and older person in special. It is called oral or mouth yeast infection because it affects the bucal cavity and sometimes the throat.
The symptom of mouth yeast infection is very easy to recognize. You may notice white patches in your mouth, with ulcers around the inside pallets of the mouths and sometimes you may find it hard to swallow food. it is very common among babies and you can not due so much about it than just visit your doctor and maybe given some topical cream if your baby doesn’t eat properly.
Older persons or those whose immune system have been compromised due to various causes, mostly chronic illnesses, may notice oral thrush as well. As before, you may want to apply some mouth washes that contain anti-fungals. If for any reason the thrush doesn’t go away it means that you have chronic yeast infection. Unfortunately, this is more common than you think.
The causes of oral thrush may be due to some medications, especially antibiotics, corticosteroids and birth control pills. Some illnesses such as diabetes, HIV, cancer, dry mouth are more likely to cause you thrush. Also women who are pregnant may experience vaginal thrush, people who smoke or have dentures which are not fit properly.
If the oral yeast infection spreads toward esophagus and digestive tract, in order to diagnose it you may need special tests such as endoscopy or a throat culture test. This off course can be done only by your doctor so if you suspect you may suffer from thrush, it is better visit your doctor for proper diagnose and treatment.
You can prevent developing thrush by limiting your sugar and sweets intake. This is very important, as the sugar feeds the yeast fungus in your body. Also, you need to maintain a good general mouth hygiene. You should avoid mouth spays and washers as these can kill the good bacteria from your mouth. The same applies for soaps and feminine perfumes that are applied on your intimate areas which are blamed for destroying the good bacteria from inside and causing you vaginal thrush. Off course, if you are a smoker you may want to try and quit not only for avoiding painful mouth ulcers but also for your general health wellbeing.
